Chat with Emmy Award Winning Alex Lacamoire
Happy Monday #KICKBACKCHAT fam! I’m really excited to share my new chat and what I’ve been working on!
These past months I’ve been rehearsing for a powerful new musical The Wrong Man at the MCC Theater in New York City. The story was written by Ross Golan and centers around a man that was wrongfully accused for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend. The creative team also includes Hamilton/In The Heights/FX Fosse Verdon’s music arranger Alex Lacamoire & director Thomas Kail, and So You Think You Can Dance’s choreographer Travis Wall. There are so many layers to this story that we explore, and it has challenged us daily to keep asking questions.
I spent time Friday chatting with our incredible Music Arranger #AlexLacamoire. This was a complete full circle moment for me. In middle school, I attended Camp Broadway in NYC and they took us to see Lin Manuel’s In the Heights the musical. Lin-Manuel wrote this story to give homage to his upbringing in the Latin community in Washington Heights. The music, authenticity, love, unity, power, and music on that stage was like no other! Alex served as the music arranger for this musical that made a huge impact on my life as an artist. After watching that show, I recognized the importance of celebrating who I am and knew I wanted to be a part of the Broadway community. #diversity #representationmatters
I hope you enjoy my chat with this dope artist and walk away feeling inspired. He has set such a powerful example of the importance of believing in yourself and working hard to make your dreams a reality. (Side note: I was humbled just by editing down his title in the introduction. Sheesh! LOL)
