#Black Panther : When Will African-American Films No Longer be Considered Unicorns?
Updated: Mar 1, 2018
I recently read Marc Bernardin's article at #HollywoodReporter on the topic about when African-American films will no longer be considered "unicorns." Marc points out that Hollywood should pay attention to the real reason why films such as Black Panther, Girl's Trip, and Get Out make such anomalous box-office hits in the first place: They're stories about blacks, so therefore they were executed (written and directed) by Blacks.
"The way forward isn't simply to decide to greenlight stories about diverse people. It's to cultivate a generation of writers, directors and producers who see the world through their own unique lens and then bring that perspective to bear.
Naturally, we all respond the most to films displaying TRUTH. "Truth, ultimately, is what makes something universal."
